Biography
Fay Bound Alberti was born in Lancashire, and raised in Wales. She completed a degree in English and History in 1995, and went on to do postgraduate work at the University of York, where she took both her Masters and her DPhil in History.
Since completing her DPhil, Fay has pursued her research interests, focusing on medicine, emotion, science, subjectivity and gender. She is interested in the interface between art and science, and the languages and symbolism of emotion across time and cultures, using a variety of interdisciplinary techniques derived from literary criticism, feminist and sociological analyses. She has published books and articles relating to these themes, in historical journals like Isis, as well as in such medical publications as The Lancet. She has also published for feminist websites, such as the F-Word.
In 2012 Fay took up the post of Portfolio Development Manager (Medical History and Humanities) at the Wellcome Trust. This role combines her two interests – philanthropy and the study of medical history – to help develop the Trust’s grant making. She remains a research active academic and writer, and is currently working on her new book: ‘This Mortal Coil’: How the Modern Body was Made (forthcoming, Oxford University Press).contact: Fay Bound Alberti
